About Nonomiya Shrine
Nonomiya Shrine is a historic sanctuary in the heart of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, famously depicted in 'The Tale of Genji' as the purification site for Imperial princesses (Saio) before their service at Ise Grand Shrine. Distinguished by its rare 'Kuroki Torii' (Black Wooden Gate) made of unbarked oak and a rich 'Carpet Moss Garden', the shrine is a designated place of deep history and literature. Today, it is a renowned 'power spot' for matchmaking and safe childbirth.
