About Mikami Shrine

Mikami Shrine is the only shrine in Japan dedicated to hairdressing and beauty. Located in a tranquil corner of Arashiyama near the Ogura Pond, it venerates Fujiwara Unemenosuke Masayuki, the patron deity of the beauty industry. The shrine is famous for its unique 'kami hōnō' ritual, where visitors can offer a lock of their hair for blessings, which is then interred in a sacred 'hair mound' (kamizuka). It's a popular pilgrimage site for stylists seeking success and individuals praying for healthy hair.
