About Myomanji Temple

Myōman-ji is a Nichiren sect temple known for its eclectic blend of history and modernity. Originally in central Kyoto, it relocated to the quieter northern hills in 1968. The temple is famous for the 'Snow Garden' (Yukinoniwa), a dry landscape masterpiece by Matsunaga Teitoku that uses Mount Hiei as borrowed scenery. It also features a striking, Indian-style stupa modeled after Bodh Gaya and houses the legendary 'Bell of Dojoji,' said to have been cursed by a spurned woman who turned into a serpent.
